I think some of you can commiserate with me here. Mornings are can be stressful! I mean there are only so many minutes to get morning stuff done before you look up and realize it’s noon. And you (and maybe your kids) are still in your pjs. Or perhaps that’s just me……..
Anyway, as a busy mom, breakfast is not my strong point. Often times I am not hungry early and that alone makes me not want to cook. Tie in the fact that some mornings we are out the door before the sun comes up and you’ll understand why I gravitate towards easy kid friendly breakfast ideas.
Here are the main things that usually go wrong at my house.
I’ll forget to have an outfit ready for my 2 year old. This means I don’t dress her while she’s still sleeping and has no say in what she wears.
Which means she hates the outfit I pick and gets an attitude and insists on wearing pajamas for the whole day. When I say attitude, I mean the whole shebang! She refuses to put her arms through her shirt. Her legs become magically glued together. This is when I have to pull out my nicest “mommy voice” and basically bribe her so that she gets dressed.
Next, I’ll realize that I can’t find one matching pair of shoes for her. Seriously. By now, we’re most likely running late.
At this point I’m calling my husband and accusing him of sabotage. WHERE DID YOU SEE HER SHOES LAST? I ask. ARE YOU SURE THEY AREN’T IN YOUR TRUCK? DID YOU CHECK THE BACK SEAT?
When we are finally ready we make our way to the kitchen. Nothings prepped. I totally forgot to make anything the night before. By this time, I’m hungry. My 2 year old is hangry and my 10 year old is just going with the flow….another stop for fast food. I quickly scan my brain and try to think of the healthiest thing we can grab. I don’t come up with much!
We’re running late, finally we make it to the van. We are buckled in about to drive away and I realize I have no gas. I lose all hopes of making it anywhere on time and crank up the music and drive to the gas station.
Hey, we can probably get breakfast from there too.
Don’t be me! I had one too many of those mornings and came up with a few simple suggestions for myself!
Morning Hacks
- Get everyone’s clothes ready the night before. Shoes by the door.
- Have your diaper bag ready to go, don’t forget to add an extra outfit.
- Have a quick breakfast ready to go!
- Make sure your van/car/truck has gas the night before!
Here’s a quick kid friendly breakfast idea we love!
Double Chocolate Oatmeal Bites
I really enjoy making this recipe because the ingredients are simple. I even let my kids help, which makes for some fun times in the kitchen. I added Nesquik for the chocolate flavor which my kids love and I love that Nesquik has 7 essential vitamins and minerals, no artificial colors or flavors and has 8g of protein when mixed with 8oz of milk. That kept them fueled for our surprise trip to Downtown San Antonio Fiesta 2016!
After (what seemed like hours) searching for Gabby’s shoes we finally made it to Fiesta and the kids were happy! They had all the energy in the world to run about downtown! We even met a clown!
Here she is AGAIN with no shoes on. She loves taking them off in the van, on the street. You know, basically wherever we go.
This is my awesome nephew. We stopped in a candy store. He said, “I’m in Candy Heaven!” Oh man….we certainly were. But ya know, I didn’t feel so bad treating them since we had a pretty filling breakfast and we all walked so much downtown!
My son says they taste like cookies. Naturally, they are his “go-to” snack after school. That means I took care of breakfast and snacks with one prep time. Win-win!
There are so many ways to use Nesquik for breakfast. I’m talking about muffins, smoothies, fruit dips. Check out the Breakfast Inspiration board on Pinterest for the best kid friendly breakfast ideas!

Wow, never thought of using Nesquik for oatmeal bites, what a good idea! Our mornings get so busy and the kids are always hungry right after school, this would be a great snack to whip up!

It really is a great snack!
I try to prep ahead of time for church Sunday mornings, because no matter what time we wake up, I like to sit and drink my coffee on Sunday mornings until we only have 5 minutes left before we have to be out the door. Never fails for some reason! My kids love oatmeal bites like these, and they really do taste like cookies!! 🙂

I love to sit and drink my coffee too. We go to the last service time at our church, it’s in the afternoon so we relax in the morning.
These look quick, easy and a great healthier snack alternative. Can’t wait to try them. So bummed we didn’t make it downtown this year. Maybe next year!
Hi Kim! Hope you get a chance to try them soon. We don’t usually go to Fiesta (I’m not big on crowds) so I was surprised that I had fun!
Wow, great oatmeal recipe for breakfast and also awesome morning hacks.

I declare that you are a… GENIUS! How clever and delicious is this breakfast?! Seriously! I think this would save everyone at least one argument in the morning. I mean, come on. It has chocolate in it 😉
LOL. Yes my kids argue less when breakfast is chocolate-y!
I can totally relate to your morning stressors. Getting ready the night before is key to a peaceful morning. Your breakfast idea sounds delicious, healthy and easy.
Thanks Diane. I really don’t like being stressed in the morning. It can throw off the whole day!
I love Nesquick.. don’t drink milk without it. 🙂 These bites look yummy. What a great idea for a quick snack or breakfast.
