When was the last time you had the luxury of time while writing your college essay?

With so much happening in college, you always end up writing essays in a hurry to meet the tight deadlines and on many occasions, make the grave error of submitting them without giving them a second look. True, isn’t it?

Editing your work can make a huge impact on the final piece you submit. While drafting, there are several components with respect to the essay structure, sentence formation, grammatical errors and more that can go unnoticed. Giving your essay another read or two after drafting it helps you spot these errors and lets you perfect your college paper.

So, regardless of how much time you have, don’t ever choose to skip the editing process. Here are 5 tips to edit your college essay quickly –

Read it Aloud

We have all been told that the best way to proofread is to read our writing out aloud but very rarely do we take this tip seriously.

Well, reading out your essay aloud can do wonders. When you read something aloud, you tend to pay more attention to how it sounds and are able to spot mistakes more easily. From sentences being too long to incorrect usage of words – you are able to get a better sense of your writing and make corrections.

It might seem time-consuming at first but by the end of it, you come to realize how effective an exercise it can prove to be.

Go Step-Wise

When you are sitting to edit your paper, don’t jump onto it in a random fashion. Break down the editing process and go step by step in order to do a thorough job at it.

First, start with checking the structure of the essay and ensure the paragraphs flow in logically. After that, check the essay for grammatical mistakes, choice of words, tone of voice, spellings and punctuations.

When you tackle one problem at a time, you avoid getting too overwhelmed and are able to dive into the details when it comes to editing.

Get Help

“Who has the time to edit?” you might ask in exasperation and that is understandable. However, don’t take a hit on your grades due to the lack of time.

If you feel you are unable to proofread and edit your essay, take help from an essay editing service and let the experts do the job for you. It’s better to outsource this critical step rather than submitting your college paper without editing it only to see all your efforts go waste.

Take a Print Out

All the writing has happened on your laptop and being so used to digital screens, the easier option is editing soft copies of our writing. However, editing your work on a print out is a more effective way of going about it.

Why, you ask? That’s because it brings in a fresh perspective, letting you catch blind spots and view your own essay more objectively. So, go old-school – sit down with the print out and a pencil and get down to editing your work manually for a change.

Cross-Check Facts

Be it a research paper or an IB ToK essay, you would have used facts, quotes and statistical data to strengthen your paper. This is the stage when you must cross-check all those facts and ensure the material included is accurate.

Cross-check the facts and the credibility of the sources to be doubly sure. It is a good idea to see if you have more than one source stating the same fact – that way you gain more confidence. The last thing you want is to lose grades due to the inaccuracy of the information you provided.
