Birthday Dinner at Casa Rio

Casa Rio in San Antonio is a restaurant along the riverwalk. My husband and I don’t get to venture downtown very often, but when we do we take full advantage of the babysitter and stay out late. I’m talking like 10pm late. Seriously. 😉 I have no idea why I can’t stay up late anymore but, I think having a 2 year old has something to do with it. Oh, and a day job. Uhhhh…the responsibilities of adult life.

Anyway….

On May 12th, we celebrated my 30th birthday {woot, woot!} with a dinner date at Casa Rio. This is a traditional Mexican Restaurant located at 430 E. Commerce St., San Antonio, TX 78205.

Hours as such: Sun – Thu: 11 am – 10 pm and Fri – Sat: 11 am – 11 pm.

That’s the restaurant. See how the seating is right next to the river? The ducks come up and try to sneak some chips and salsa. If you don’t give them the food they may just peck your butt!

Casa Rio Review

Parking: We parked at the River Center Mall. I think we paid close to $9 for parking so it really wasn’t that bad. There is closer parking but for some reason all of the lots were only accepting cash. All we had was debit. Go figure. So it was little bit of a walk to Casa Rio, a beautiful walk along the river.

Food: My husband tried a sampler plate. There was a cheesy, bacon wrapped jalepeno-chicken thing on his plate that was –ahhmazzing.  I had enchiladas. We both thought the food was great and the pricing was not so bad. For 2 meals, 4 drinks and a tip our night out totaled close to $60.

Drinks: We tried the frozen margaritas. I was not a huge fan of the margaritas from Casa Rio. I think Taco Cabana and/or Mama Margies have better margaritas.

Overall Impression: I really loved the outdoor seating. However, I did get pecked in the butt by a duck. For real. After that peck  I was a bit scared of those darn ducks! There were mariachis outside and you could pay for songs. They didn’t have a card reader–only accepting cash, so no music at our table. We did listen to a few songs they performed for others. I even posted a live video on my Facebook 🙂   [Side note: carry cash when in downtown SA!] The food was good and the location is amazing. I enjoyed sitting right next to the river, enjoying drinks and conversation with my husband.

  7. Looks like a really great place for dinner! I love the outdoor seating by the water, although I’m sorry you had that unfortunate duck experience. 🙂 San Antonio itself sounds like a fun city to visit. We’ve been wanting to take a road trip to TX, since I’ve never been there and we don’t live all that far away being in Oklahoma now!
