It’s tough to be on a budget, especially during a holiday. Don’t be discouraged there are still so many ways to spoil your family and show them how much you love them without spending too much money.
For Kids. Throw a simple lunch or dinner party. Super simple like-spruce up your family dinner by including a fun crossword (found in the round up below) and/or family game (we love Pie Face and Apples to Apples,) give your kids one special Valentine’s Day candy or treat (my husband was eyeing a huge gummy bear for our kids this year-we saw it at Target!) Check out this link for Valentines Day Round up! Let your kids cook with you. Play Uno. Cut out a construction paper heart, take turns writing what you love about your family.
For your Husband. Offer a back massage! Make homemade jerky, this was a big hit with my family. My dad didn’t even believe I made it. Keep gifts simple by buying him his favorite soda or craft beer and one of his favorite candy bars. Give him some alone time–grab the kids and set out for a 30 min walk so Dad can relax at home with no kids!
For your BFF or Sister. This year my BFF told me about a clearance at Walmart. I was able to buy 25 Burt’s Bees Lip Balms for .29 each down from $2.97 a piece!! Woohoo. So I bought a set of $1 Valentine’s Day ziplock bags from Dollar General, some Valentine’s Day candy and used a cute printable for the balm. I’ll be posting a separate post for those so you can check them out here. You can also try giving hair ties, favorite candy or making treats like chocolate covered strawberries and chocolate pretzels or cake pops! Don’t forget to check out Dollar Tree and Dollar General if you want to give books- I have found great books for $1 up to $3, even Dean Koontz at Dollar General for $3! Don’t forget about handmade. If you crochet, knit, scrapbook then I’m sure you can come up with a beautiful, frugal gift idea. Crochet? Make this scarf!
We are in a season of life where frugal living is a must. We are working towards debt-free and use budgeting as a way to deter credit card use. When I’m making candy or treats I plan them into my grocery budget. If I plan on buying gifts like games for my kids I make sure ALL the bills are paid in full first. I use different apps and survey sites to earn extra money for games and extras 🙂 My kids are happy, healthy and spoiled rotten–with love!

Thanks Michelle! Be sure to tell her to check out her nearest Walmart, she may still find some!
We usually spend Valentine’s with the kids and I like the idea of having a dinner party and including them! Thank you for linking up at Welcome Home Wednesdays!
Thanks Crystal! We had fun. We did Valentine Floats (ice cream and red soda) and played games. Apples to Apples, Bingo and PieFace. The kids loved it.
