How To Make Borax Free Slime That Your Kids Will Love

We co-sleep.

Our daughter is 3 years old.

The other night she said, “Mom, did you turn into an evil witch? Dad let me see your phone so I can shine the light on my mom and check.”

I truly wonder why I’m the one she thinks will turn evil. I mean, why isn’t it possible her dad could turn into an evil witch?

And where do kids come up with this stuff? Anyways, it made for a funny bed-time laugh and funny to share on instagram.

My kids are hilarious, but the 3 year old is probably the funniest. And….the one who misbehaves the most.

Shocker, right?! 😉

So. on that note, I am always on the lookout for ways to entertain all the kids, and keep the 3 year old as busy as possible.

This is where the DIY slime comes in….

Quick and easy DIY slime recipe for kids. No borax needed for this slime. Ingredients include liquid starch, white glue and water. Making slime is such a fun and easy way to connect with your kids. slime | DIY slime | easy slime | how to make slime |

We tweaked the recipe to make sure it’s oooeeey-goooeeey and not sticky. Trust me, you don’t want sticky slime. It’ll end up in your pantry, on your baseboards and possibly under your bathroom sink.

And NO ONE will know how the slime travelled all over the house.

Lucky for you, this is the best slime recipe.

You need

Let’s get started

  1.  Start by mixing up the water and the glue. Get it all combined.
  2. Add in the color with food coloring.
  3. Add in the liquid starch and mix it up. It will feel thick.
  4. Once your slime is feeling thicker you can put it on your play area and have your kids knead it like dough or just start playing with it. That helps bring out the consistency we are looking for.

Tips and Tricks

  • In the video I say it’s best for 1-2 days of play. This recipe is actually doing fine on day 3 without losing its consistency and turning watery or sticky.
  • Instead of ziploc bags we kept the slime in tupperware containers so there was no oozing out. I think it’s best to use containers instead of plastic baggies.
  • Make sure you give your kids a playmat or lay out some foil paper or parchment paper. You don’t want this all over your table.
  • I’ve also had to remind the kids not to lick the slime. *SMH* It’s probably best to just SAY IT, say “Hey kids, don’t lick the slime.” Also, remind them not to put slime in their hair, or throw it into their sister’s hair…. or put slime on the dog, or try to get the dog to lick the slime. NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO LICK THE SLIME. DIY Slime

I really don’t mind making the slime with the kids (even with all the slime licking) because they love it! They get to do something “sciency” by mixing up ingredients and turning liquids into something squishy they can play with.

My kids ask to play with their slime every day. And you can mix this up quickly and keep ’em busy while you make dinner. Win, win!
