Have you ever struggled with finding the motivation to lose weight?
I sure have. I can remember being 8 years old and disliking my body. I was way too young to have body issues. But, I did.
And those body issues continued for years. Heck, I’m still dealing with the body issues today.
What changed?
I think the biggest change for me was my way of thinking. I finally realized that I hate being in pictures because of my weight. I miss out on taking photos with my kids or friends and family because I just know I’ll hate how I look.
That is no way to live! Especially when life is so short, ya know?
My motivation to lose weight? I want to be healthy. I want to take pictures with my kids and not be worried about how I look. And I am just ready to lose this extra weight.
What’s motivating you to lose weight right now? I really would love to know, leave me a note in the comments below!
on to the tips…………
How to Get Motivated to Lose Weight
Just an FYI this is not a magical recipe that, once followed will result in amazing and fast weight loss. (Although I really wish it was!) This is what is working for me and I hope it can help you too.
Set Your Goal
This is the easiest step. Seriously. You probably know what your goal weight or goal size is. Write it down. I found a health and fitness log here. I started using this log in January and you can see I’ve logged in all my workouts.
After tracking January I realized I wanted to work out only during weekdays and have weekends off. I noticed that when I expected myself to workout on weekends it usually didn’t happen. For February, I scheduled out the workouts and chose to take weekends as rest days.
This makes a lot more sense for my lifestyle. And if you look at my log you’ll see I have missed a workout here and there. But I try not beat myself up about it.
Another thing that helped me set my goal and get motivated to lose weight is my vision board. I hung my vision board right in front of my treadmill. While working out, I can take a look at my the ideas and goals my board represents. This is so motivating!
Move Things Around
If you plan to workout at the gym you might have to skip that Taco Tuesday meet up with friends. Or you might plan to have your husband help with picking up the kids after school so you can go workout.
Move things around until they work out for you! You really need this time to exercise and I promise you’ll feel the mental benefits right away. Working out makes me feel so much better about myself and I’m more likely to stick to my diet plan on a day that I’ve worked out.
Moving things around for me meant moving my treadmill into my bedroom. *Sigh* I already have trouble with home decor, just ask my best friend. I’m always asking her to fly down to Texas and help me decorate my home. And now I have a treadmill IN my bedroom instead of the garage.
But know what? It works. Instead of avoiding the garage ALL day or making up excuses (like it’s too cold, or too hot) I actually get on my treadmill 99% more than I ever would if it was in my garage.
Start thinking! What do you need to move around in your life to make your fitness goals work?
Make Healthier Choices
A few weeks ago we traveled to Corpus Christi. Traveling always means gaining weight for me. Because hello, I love food and trying new things. This time around though, instead of giving into all those crazy cravings (because I will seriously research “what’s the best ice cream place in Corpus” and make my husband take me there) I chose something healthier!
Yep! I stocked our hotel room with LALA® Yogurt Smoothies. The smoothies have 5 grams of protein and are made with real fruits. So I got that sweet craving covered without messing up and going overboard!
I grabbed the Piña Colada smoothie and I drank it while I watched my kids play at the beach. I love yogurt but I wouldn’t necessarily take a package of greek yogurt to the beach with me. These yogurt smoothies are perfect as on-the-go snacks. My kids really loved them too!
I even grabbed one to have while we were fishing. I was desperate to avoid that famous fast-food burger place near the bay in Corpus. Can you guess which one?
Just Keep Going
My goal for February was to step it up to one hour on my treadmill each day. If you take another look at my workout log above you’ll see some days I only worked out for 20 or 30 minutes.
I didn’t beat myself up about this. Instead, I logged in as much time as I could on my treadmill and kept it at that.
Some exercise is better than no exercise in my book.
How do you keep going? You can try looking for inspiration.
I found the contestants of the HEB Slim Down Showdown to be very inspiring! LALA® Yogurt Smoothies are proud sponsors of the H-E-B Slim Down Challenge, which is a “contest designed to give participants the education and tools they need to lead a healthier lifestyle.”
The contestants in the challenge undergo a 12 week competition and at the end only one male and one female from each groups will win the $10,000 grand prize.
The H-E-B Slim Down Showdown has been going on for the last 7 years and has had 183 contestants. Altogether, the previous contestants have lost more than 6,000 pounds!
If that’s not inspiring, I have no idea what is!
(I really love that my favorite grocery store, H-E-B is committed to improving the health of Texans.)
Once you get that motivation to lose weight – don’t stop!
Remember, you need to stop and set your goal. You can write about weight loss in a journal, start an instagram page to help you stay motivated or set up your vision board and put it somewhere you can see it DAILY! That is the key!
Move things around in your life until your workout plan becomes something you can do every time you’re supposed to. Don’t let the weather ruin your workouts, make it work somehow. Make healthier choices easy by stocking your fridge with things that are good for you and by getting rid of the things that aren’t.
And no matter what, just keep going. Even if you miss a week of working out and you ate terribly. Start again with step 1 and set a goal just for that next week. Don’t beat yourself up. Move on!

It’s good!
I need to sit down and create a plan for me!! I wanted to get on the treadmill daily to reach my weight loss goals, but things (ahem…blogging) have gotten in the way. Looks like I’ll need to set the alarm super early and knock it out, first thing! Thanks for the motivation.

You’re welcome!! I will admit, this week has been tricky to get back on track. I’ve missed Monday and today, sometimes life just gets in the way and it’s understandable. Hope you can knock it out first thing. If I know I need to exercise super early, I just won’t wake up. LOL
Great post! I’m currently at my weight loss journey as well – although I try to keep myself relatively skinny throughout the year, so it’s only just for a few periods! Thanks for being such a great motivation though:)
Making healthier choices should be the priority, I have been stuck on a loop of doing the same things again & again that has slowed down my efforts. I felt motivated after reading this blog, thank you for sharing.
