What To Do With 6 Kids + A Dog In San Antonio

What does your family usually do on Sundays? Our last few Sundays have been bogged down with cleaning and prepping for the week to come. Last Sunday was a bit different. I was tired of being a homebody.

My husband and I packed up 6 kids and the dog and got out of the house with no plan–we just left!

Know what? I loved it. We had hours to just hang out together as a family, take pictures, enjoy the beautiful afternoon and explore San Antonio. If you want to know what you can do with kids in San Antonio keep following along, we plan to do Sunday Fundays more often!

We started out at the South Side Lions Park. I love this park because it’s beautiful! They have a trail you can bike, run or walk and a playground area. There’s also a 10 acre lake and you can fish there. We haven’t gone fishing at the park but we met a lot of families this weekend who were fishing. What to do with kids in San Antonio

Things To Do At South Side Lions Park

  • Walk your dog along the lake
  • Bike the trail
  • Picnic
  • Cookout–they have plenty of picnic tables and grills
  • Play at the playground
  • Take pictures by the water
  • Play football
  • Play tag
  • Bring a blanket, some snacks and read a book by the lake
  • Go fishing
  • Have a birthday party, you can rent pavilion areas

We spent our time at the park playing at the playground, taking pictures by water, trying to keep the 3 yr old from jumping into the water and walking the dog around. What to do with kids in San Antonio.

I had fun and I think the kids did too. You know, when they weren’t arguing about whatever it is that 6 kids will argue about.

After the park we headed downtown. I wanted ice cream, the kids were begging for fast food ice cream but I wanted something better! After “googling” we wound up exploring the Pearl neighborhood. I had never gone there before and I can’t believe I have been missing out this whole time! There really is something for everyone to do. We found a coffee shop, outdoor yoga area, beautiful shops, restaurants, a brewery. If you haven’t gone by the Pearl you need to. There’s free parking and you can take your dog and all yo’ kids. Lol. It’s probably just me who’s got all these kids!

Anyways.

We found Lick Ice Cream Shop and were in love! What’s so special about this place? The ice cream has no high fructose corn syrup (something we are trying to avoid) or preservatives. Lick has creative flavors, guess what the 3 yr old had? Beet ice cream. Yes! Roasted beets with fresh mint and she loved it!

If you’re on a budget you may want to save up for this outing. For all 8 of us the ice cream was about $45. It’s worth it though and you can grab your ice cream and walk around the Pearl for free, check out the cool buildings and people watch!

I tried horchata and my second scoop was a homemade vanilla  which was amazing and if you live here you need to go there today! I think there’s a shop in Austin too. If you don’t live here and you’re my friend please remind me to take you when you visit. It’s that good! What to do with kids in San Antonio.

I’m grateful our family was able to spend time together and have fun. But, the Pearl area is a place I want to explore with my husband sans kids! No offense to the 6 kids and the dog we had with us but, this place looks like fun and you guys will ruin it. There I said it. The kids will ruin the fun at the Pearl. You can’t go beer and wine tasting, fancy restaurant eating with all those kids and a dog. I would never even try with the one kid, cause y’all already know the 3 yr old is crazy!

So here’s my list of things I want to do at the Pearl when we don’t have kids in tow:

And then remember if you do have to take your kids, do it. We had fun walking around, exploring and eating our ice cream and we’ll definitely do it again.
