Frugal Family Movie Night

Family movie night at our house is always a fun occasion. The kids get to have candy, the dog sneaks popcorn and I get to relax and worry about the mess later!

Yeah right. You know I am cringing about the popcorn all over the floor…the spilled soda. The greasy little hands touching everything.

But I let it go 🙂 Or try to. We all need those fun, carefree nights to unwind with our families.

My kids  especially love family movie night because of the all the treats they eat! There really is no way we could afford to take our kids to the movies on a weekly basis. The tickets alone would eat up all of our “fun money” budget. We would miss out on candy and popcorn and soda. What fun would the movie be without the treats? Plus, we have a 2 year old. I don’t know if your 2 year old is awesome and well-behaved in public, but ours is not well-behaved (she’s pretty awesome though).

We don’t have cable, so we have to be creative! We recently bought a new cell phone, a Coolpad Rogue at Walmart. It’s 4G capable, has a 4′” touch screen and even has a camera.

The service plan includes one free VUDU movie per month. I thought this was an awesome way to get our family movie nights in. A free movie! Count me in.

I love how the VUDU movie is a perk in my plan. we get one free new release per line per month which is a $7 value. With the Walmart Family PLUS Plan we have unlimited talk, text and data with up to 10GB of 4G LTE. This service plan is only $49.88 a month! I feel like this is a great value for those of us looking for frugal deals. In the past, I’ve paid twice that or more for my phone service alone, no movies included.  🙁

I especially love the 10 GB of 4G LTE data! I’m thinking about everything I can do without worrying about going over on my data! I can keep up with social media and my blog plus, let my kids play games and watch movies while on the road. During the summer we spend a lot of time in the van on road trips. It’s so important to keep them busy!

Family movie night.

The Walmart Family PLUS Plan is easy to set up and get started. Pick your phone. They have several high quality phones. I chose the Cool Pad Rogue for $19.88 (rollback from $39.83). Grab your Starter Kit. The Starter Kits are on rollback for just $19.88 (for the first time ever!) this offer lasts until July. Phone + Starter Kit= Phone service you love & frugal family movie night!

I ended up with a total popcorn mess! My 2 yr old decided she would rather spread it all over the blankets. I know you believe me. I added the picture because my mom never believes that she does anything bad. Here’s proof mom!

Chico ate some popcorn before I was able to shoo him away. Oh well..a little less to clean up!

Don’t forget to check out the Walmart Family PLUS Plan, you may be adding in a free movie to your family nights!

  1. Ok, so we prefer romantic movie night – no kids! We can’t go out to the movies with them, so we often pick a movie on Amazon prime to watch after they’re in bed and treat ourselves to our favorite beverage and popcorn. 🙂

That sounds awesome! Romantic movie night doesn’t happen too often over here!

  2. This sounds like a great way to enjoy family time together. We do a lot of movie nights with the kids too. I am a huge fan of using the PureFlix app and also Feeln. As far as snacks, we tend to lean towards popcorn and candy too. I haven’t combined them though.

  7. We LOVE family movie night at our house and try to do it once a month. My husband makes organic popcorn with olive oil & butter in our popcorn machine, and we pile up on the couch with blankets to watch a movie I rented from the library. It’s such a simple way to have fun as a family without the expense of movie tickets and all the snacks! We don’t have cable either; we have a monthly subscription to Hulu and get one to Right Now Media for free since my hubby works at our church. I’ll have to check out the Walmart plan for our phones, especially since it includes a free movie each month! 🙂 #HomeMattersParty
