I know you’re probably busy. You work. You manage your home. You take care of crazy kids. (That’s not just me, right?) And you try to throw in some self-care in there with a sprinkle of time with your husband. #AmIRight? I get it, sometimes relationships take the back burner and date nights are nonexistent. Here are a few at home date night ideas to help bring that spark back!
Not sure about you, but there’s been times in our marriage when I can’t remember the last time me and my husband hung out alone. When I think back it’s usually in a season of time that was super busy like when my husband travelled weekly for work and was pretty much only home on the weekends.
Those are the times we fought the most! The weekends were filled with catching up on sleep (for him,) chores and spending time as family. We didn’t think to take time to be alone. We didn’t go out or plan for at home date nights.
Trust me, I am so glad those days are over!
Nowadays our lives are still busy. We both work full-time and we have 3 kids. Enough said, right?
The difference of our relationship now vs. back then is simple: we intentionally set time to date each other. And our dates are so simple! Sometimes we just sit on the patio with a glass of wine and talk. Sometimes we stay up late and watch movies or shows. Last weekend we went grocery shopping and turned it into a date by stopping for some dessert before returning home.
Date nights don’t have to be elaborate and expensive to be meaningful. The most important part of date night is this: You being committed to connecting with your significant other and vice versa! Keep reading for awesome and easy at home date night ideas.
FUN & EASY AT HOME DATE NIGHT IDEAS
1. Comedy night
My husband is the best at picking out funny movies on Netflix or a comedy show. Usually we watch someone I never heard of or a movie I would have never picked and I’m pleasantly surprised.
2. Patio or porch sitting
This is probably my favorite because it’s so so simple. We like to sit on the back patio, sometimes just talk and sometimes just listen to music and hang out. We’ve even brought out the tablet and watched a movie out there.
3. Candlelit dinner
This date night doesn’t have to be fancy! Serve whatever you planned to make for dinner anyway by candlelight and after the kids are in bed.
4. Drink and food sampling night.
Pick a theme like Mexican or Italian and create appetizers and drinks to go with it. This would be best if you plan and prepare together!
We’ve had fun with a few dates using DateBox. My favorite memory: watching/listening to Juan make a prank call because of a dare! I know, I know sounds so immature but OMG so much FUN!!!!

5. Movie night with popcorn and candy.
I love movie nights! We have this popcorn machine and I add olive oil and himalayan salt to our popcorn. So good!
6. Game night, try board games and card games.
I grew up playing card games like Rummy, Speed, Spades, stuff like that. Unfortunately, my husband doesn’t know how to play many card games, except for UNO which we save for family game nights!
7. Cook dinner together.
Plan to prep and cook a new recipe together. Bonus points if you go shopping together too. 🙂
8. Puzzle or craft night together.
We don’t do this but I would love to take time and create a puzzle. I’m totally convinced my kids would ruin the puzzle the very next day but whatever…I’m still wanting to try. If 1000 piece puzzles give you anxiety try some of these 500 piece puzzles instead.
9. Vision Board party
We did this as a family a few years ago but I want to try as a date night for this year. Read this post for details on what you need.
10. Massage night.
Grab massage oil or lotion, turn the lights down low, and take turns giving massages.
11. Bath for two.
This one is easy and relaxing! Fill up the tub and use your favorite body wash for bubbles or throw in a bath bomb. We usually play soft music using Alexa on our Echo Dot, light candles and bring in a bottle of wine.
So now you have 11 easy, at home date night ideas. Try out one per week for 11 weeks and then start all over, I bet you’ll be looking forward to date night each week!

Interesting, I don’t do dating yes I know it’s wired, but culture difference. Altough interesting article
Great ideas! The way you make popcorn with olive oil sounds reallllly good! And you should definitely try a puzzle night – my husband and I do 3D puzzles together and they’re so fun!
If I could get myhusband to do arta and crafts would be a miricle. Although we do have game nights where I play his video game and he plays games I choose. Great ideas for date night inside!
My husband is actually a really good artist. He helped me create Transformers ornaments! He doesn’t usually spend any time crafting or drawing but he’s always willing to help me out with my blog posts! 🙂 That’s awesome you play video games. Unless we are playing a Super Nintendo I have ZERO interest! lol
These are great ideas! My hubby and I love our movie nights. We do game night as well. Can’t sit on the patio though… too cold. lol. I LOVE the idea of a craft night, but hubby isn’t too fond about doing crafts.
My husband and I do porch sitting as our “date night” all the time. We put the kids to sleep, then sit out on our back deck, drink wine and chat about our day. It isn’t fancy but it is nice.
These are all great at home date night ideas – I like having movie nights or a nice candlelit meal… on the rare occasion we are at home in the evening together lol!
I love these ideas. So refreshing to see date nights that aren’t over the top. I like how cheap and romantic these all are.

My hubby and I almost always shop and cook together . . . it is great feeling like a team. I love your massage night idea and might have to try that one this weekend!
Love this ideas, Crystal.
The hubs and I enjoy drinking a glass of wine, watching movies and eating popcorn. For me, the best date nights are when we’re at home.
Thanks for sharing!

Board games are our go-to when we want a night together. They aren’t loud so they won’t wake the kids, and we love playing games. My husband designs board games and we go to a few conventions throughout the year. We are always on the lookout for new games. We will throw in a night on the back porch (during the months the mosquitos won’t carry us away) and massages if we know the boys are good and asleep!
I love all those great ideas and this year I am determined to save and all those dates will be meaningful, fun, and priceless.
These are all excellent ideas, going to save these for my next day night with my hubby. Thanks!
We definitely do at home date nights. There is definitely not as much time or money to go around sometimes to find a sitter and go out and do something. These are some really great ideas!
I love this list – it reminded me how long it has been since i’ve done a puzzle!
