How I did laundry before kids: Sort between jeans, colors, darks and whites, wash everything separately. Dry and put away the same day.
The way I did laundry when I had younger kids: throw it all in, set temperature to cold, wash it. Forget about it. Remember, start the wash again. Hopefully remember to throw the clothes in the dryer this time.
Anyone else do this?
I’m totally cringing about the way I did laundry back when my kids were younger, but you know what it’s what worked for me when life was so busy.
Now, I have teens (who do their own laundry) and a husband who is in charge of most of the laundry. I definitely have more time now to take care of my clothing and separate it again!
One of my biggest issues with clothing is messing them up in the laundry or getting oil stains on my shirts when I’m cooking. Don’t you just hate that? It’s like you have all this money that you’re spending on nice clothes and then you either shrink it or stain it.
To solve my laundry problem I bought a hamper that is divided into three sections.
Section #1: light colored clothing
Section #2: everything that needs to be washed on delicate setting
Section #3: jeans, darker shirts and workout clothing (yes, I still throw these in together on cold setting)
I recently de-cluttered most of my clothing. What I have left are quality pieces that can mix and match together. I’m motivated to do my own laundry from start to finish because I love my clothing and I want to take care of it. I love having clean and beautiful pieces of clothing hanging up in my closet!
Laundry hacks for busy moms
- Purge! Get rid of anything that doesn’t fit well or you don’t want to be photographed in. Tell your kids to do the same. Less clothes equals less clutter and even better, less laundry!
- Set up a schedule for yourself. Do you want to do 1 load per day from start to finish? Would you rather do ALL the laundry in one day and be done with it?
- Teach your kids to do their own laundry. I taught my kids how to do their own laundry at around 9 and 10 years old. You’ll really be surprised how easy it is to teach your kids to do their own laundry.
- If your kids aren’t old enough to operate the washer and dryer by themselves they can still help. Teach them to fold laundry and put it away. That’s less work for you and teaches them to be responsible for themselves and the family.
- Mesh bags are your friend! Use mesh bags for delicates when washing. You can even collect all the dirty socks into one bag to help minimize losing socks when washing.
- Use laundry detergent you love. There’s something about the fresh and clean smell of laundry coming out of the dryer. I’m more motivated to put the clothes, towels or bedding away if I love how they smell.
I’ve been using Ensueño® Liquid Laundry Detergent and am obsessed with the fresh scent!
- Ensueño liquid laundry detergent is a 3-in-1 biodegradable formula that deep cleans, removes stains and helps protect your clothing from fading.
- The Ensueño Max Fabric Softener is also a biodegradable formula with plant-based softening extracts, and provides 35 days of long-lasting fragrance and color fading protection.
- Using the Ensueño Scent Booster Dryer Sheets helps deliver long-lasting aroma and reduces wrinkles and static.
I used the Spring Fresh product line to wash our bedding and towels. Let me tell you, they smelled SO good! Even my youngest was happy to help me fold the towels.
You can grab the complete laundry product range: detergent, fabric softener and dryer sheets in two fragrances, Spring Fresh or Violet Bouquet.
