Ever have trouble focusing or need help with drowning out background music? If you have kids, the answer is probably YES!
I work from home 5 days per week and I am on the phone pretty much the whole shift for my job. With my toddler being the crazy-fun-loving girl she is, I have to get creative to have a quiet environment for my work.
We went through 4 wood-style baby gates before I finally bought a metal one to keep her out of the upstairs while I work.
I keep the fan noise on in the upstairs bathroom to drown out her yelling!
I moved my office to the back of the house to minimize the noises I hear–mainly the 2 year old screaming, or crying or yelling at her siblings.
This week I also tried out a new service called focus@will. It’s a streaming service with a variety of music that is meant to help you focus. If you want to read the sciencey part of it you can visit the website here.
Here’s what I liked about focus@will:
Of all the categories I think Water is my favorite, it is so relaxing to me to hear the sound of ocean waves or a busy brook or raindrops! I love rain!
Uptempo really makes me want to dance, I’ll probably never use this for work since I’m stuck at a desk but for those of you who can move around more, check that category out.
Focus Spa is more upbeat and I could still work with it.
Classical this one is my primary station. I keep it on when I am working to help drown out the loudness-monster.
Alpha Chill what I love about this one is that it is mellow and relaxing, a station I would put on to read, write or do homework.
Ambient is what I am listening to right now. Relaxing and soft music, this would also be nice right before bed!
Cinematic reminds me of classical and is another one I can play during work for background music.
There are plenty more stations, but the ones I wrote about above were my favorite. They even have a “cafe focus beta” station that sounds like you are in a coffee shop! Cool, huh?
I love writing reviews for services and tools I use and with focus@will, I have no problem recommending it to you (and using my affiliate link).
How I have been using focus@will:
- #1 use when I am working, I love the music and how it’s perfectly blocking out my family’s noises from downstairs.
- When I am writing a blog post. I get so distracted by everything so this really helped me out this week. I played it when I started a post or just while brainstorming and I kept myself on track!
- Classical for Gabby during “quiet-time” Her old daycare would play classical music during nap time and she liked it.
- Reading! I like to have a background noise when I read and I can’t concentrate if the song has words in it. Plus we have a Family Reading Challenge this year so I really need to step it up and get through my books!
