I recently told my husband I’d like to get a new house with smaller bedrooms for the children. You know, to encourage them not to stay long after turning 18. You give a kid a free room with a TV, game consoles, homemade food and a maid (AKA MOM) and they’ll never ever leave. Trust me. I did it to my own mom! š
I kid, I kid. I love my children. And when they are ready to leave our home and venture off on their own I’ll sob. I’ll beg for them to stay. I’ll tell them how much I need them. But, they’ll still go. I hope I’m ready!
A Little Note to My Children
Dom–You were the cutest baby boy. The funniest toddler. You now are the best big brother. At 18 I bet you are so darn smart. What can I say, you have my brain! Today you are 10. You told me about creating your own website and doing web coding at school–stuff I can barely figure out! You have dreams of a PhD in Computer Science. Becoming a scientist and a rapper. You once told me that as a scientist you would–“Invent a potion that will make me into a kid again so you can take care of me all over again.” Who thinks of that?! I believe the only thing you need to remember is how strong you are. You stick up for others who are picked on. You make sure everyone gets a turn. You do the right thing, even when no one is looking. Never forget how strong your character is son, it speaks volumes about you.
Gabby-My little girl. Oh my dear, you keep me on my toes. You are the WILDEST 2 year old I have ever met. Ever. I have to hide all of makeup. Essentially I buy 2 of all my lipsticks and lipglossesĀ because I know it’s only a matter of time before you get your little hands on one of them. And then it’s gone in a day, true story. I absolutely look forward to all the mommy-daughter dates we will have. I can’t wait to play dress up with you and have tea parties will a million stuffed animals. I’m sure when you are 18 this world will look like such a different place. I just want you to always be yourself. You are sweet, fun and beautiful. Nothing will ever change that.
Things weĀ love now: having parties, family game night, bike riding, movie nights. Playing Uno. Playing Pie Face. I have so many wonderful memories and look forward to adding so many more!

Crystal, this is so sweet! I loved reading your letters to my niece and nephew. ā¤ļø
These letters are so sweet! I think it’s so important to write things like this to our children. I still have letters my mom wrote to me.
