Saving for Christmas

Here is a way for you to start saving for Christmas now! Christmas only comes around once per year!
Yes, I know you know that. But, for a lot of people it tends to sneak up! I don’t really think it does. I just think you people are unprepared! Don’t worry I’m not judging you. Just offering a solution of how you can change your Christmas this year, learn how to save and save yourself some stress!

Do you want to have an awesome Christmas this year? You know, where you can shop for stuff when they are on sale (I’m thinking Black Friday and most of November) and afford what you are buying – no credit cards. If you want a debt-free, stress-free holiday season, here is a good way to save!

Saving for Christmas doesn’t have to be a burden, make it easy!

This is a 26 week Savings Plan that starts in May and will have you with $1,000 to spend by the second week in November! The best part is that the most you will have to save per week is $50 and that amount is only called for 2 times within the 26 week period.

Finding the Money

Skip eating out at least one time per week
Sell something on craigslist (check your closets, garage and attics to find stuff to sell)
Post your for sale items on a FB Yard Sale Group
Ditch cable
Download On The Go Survey app
Focusgroup.com — I made most of my Christmas money through this group.
BestMark- secret shopping (see my review by clicking the link)
Babysit
Dog sit or start dog walking

Where to save

You can either save cash in a jar (promise yourself not to touch it!) OR you can save into a separate savings account.

Another thing you can try if you have direct deposit is to automatically allocate $39 into a savings account. If you do that for 26 weeks you’ll have  $1,014 in November.

Why to Save

If you don’t normally spend $1,000 on Christmas (I sure don’t!) you can use this saving plan to save for vacations, to be a blessing to others during the holiday season, to take advantage of the after Christmas sales and stock up for next year or to save for your Emergency fund. Really, you can do what you want with it! You saved!

  7. Awesome tips! I always save those freebie Target cards (you know the ones where you buy 2 or 3 items and get a $5 or $10 gift card) all year for Christmas. They come in so handy. 🙂

Thats a great idea too Lorelai! I use the Target gift cards up to keep my OOP low when I coupon at Target, I think it would be hard for me to save them!

  8. These are wonderful tips!! Another one for me (similar to your Craigslist idea) is selling items to a consignment sale. I made $150 earlier this year from my and the kids clothes, etc. that I was just hanging onto ‘just in case’ the clothes come back in style or ‘just in case’ we happen to have another girl baby at the same season who would wear the same clothes at the same age, lol! #HomeMattersParty
