Have you gotten the “I’m bored” thing from your kids yet? Yeah, me too. Summer is in full force here in San Antonio. The other day the temp outside was 102 degrees, felt like 115 degrees though! Of course, that was the day my kids and I decided to bike ride to the library.
We stopped like 5 times under any kind of shade we could find. My little one kept complaining that her belly hurt. I’m pretty sure she was lying. Just saying. Anyways we made it to the library after a 1 hour stop to cool down at Walmart. We didn’t make it back home though. We didn’t even want to bike ride back home. I don’t know if we would have made it! Plus I don’t want to be known as the crazy-mom-who-takes-her-kids-bike-riding-during-a-heat-advisory. In my defense I had no idea there was a heat advisory because I never watch the news.
I called my husband (like 7 times) and he agreed to pick us up from the library on his way home from work. We decided no more bike riding during the day, or on heat advisory days, or you know–any day during the Texas summer.
I hope you enjoy some of our summer bucket list ideas. We’re printing out a calendar and filling out our free days with our bucket list activities. Feel free to do the same!
Public Pools
In San Antonio we have several public pools that are open during the summer. The one closest to us has a diving board and 1ft pool area that is perfect for my toddler. If you are in San Antonio you can check out the Parks & Recreation page.
Indoor Trampoline Parks
My kids have so much fun at our local trampoline park. They jump, play dodge ball and meet new friends! These places can get expensive though. For regular admission near us it’s about $11 per child for one hour. Keep an eye out for coupons, promotions and family night discounts. Flipz has a family night on Tuesdays where a group of 4 can jump for 1 hour and it’s only $20.
Visit the Library
Just don’t lose the books or let your daughter unbind the pages. Not that it’s ever happened to me, but I do happen to know that replacing library books isn’t always cheap. Have your kids sign up for a summer reading program.
Kids Eat Free
There are several restaurants that participate with a kids eat free when you buy your meal. We like Denny’s, they have their free night on Tuesdays from 4-10pm. Just google Kids Eat Free and your area. I’m sure you’ll find something.
Free Summer Movies
We love heading over to Santikos Theatres to watch the free matinees on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. A lot of theater chains also offer discounted kids popcorn and/or snack boxes. My 3 year old actually sits and watches the movie so I think we’ll be able to take advantage of the free movies this summer.
Family Game Night
Set up an easy dinner (pizza?) and get out all those games! We play Uno, PieFace and Monopoly or War. I love that game night is a frugal and fun way to connect with my kids.

Love these ideas, perfect for Texas weather! Hitting up a place where kids eat free would be one of our favorite things to do because we are #foodies lol

These are great ideas! I LOVE indoor trampoline places! And summer movies at the park are so fun!
What great ideas for a fun time with family! Living here in the mountains of AZ, we don’t have a lot of options. 🙁 I wish we had more of what’s on this list – looks like fun. #HomeMattersParty

This is a fun list. We also like to go to parks and explore the nature trails when it’s not too hot outside. Hope you have a fun summer and get to do everything on your bucket list.
This is a good list of inexpensive ways to make summer fun! We do most of these things already and we also celebrate all strange national food holidays: strawberry sundaes, pick blueberries, smores, fudge, fried chicken, hot dogs, baked beans, crazy ice cream day, etc. Everyday is a different food holiday and we try to do them all. It makes for a fattening summer, but has been fun for the last few years.
I love that you celebrate strange national food holidays! We need to do that. 🙂
Great ideas! The Summer is a long time to keep the kids busy, especially in the heat! #HomeMattersParty
