5 TIPS FOR BACK TO SCHOOL MORNINGS

This post is sponsored by NESTLÉ® NESQUIK® but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

We aren’t quite back to school yet, we have about 2 weeks to go and I can’t wait! While I loved having my kids home this summer, I’m also needing MY space back. Just a few moments of quiet – that’s all I am asking for! 🙂 So in preparation (and celebration) of back to school here are 5 tips for back to school mornings.

Tips for back to school mornings.

5 TIPS FOR BACK TO SCHOOL MORNINGS

1. Have clothing ready + shoes. Waking up early is already a pain, especially in the first few weeks of back to school. Make the transition as easy as possible by having everyone in the family organize their clothing. Pair outfits and shoes in the closet and each morning you’ll all be ready in no time. No more frantically looking for your 3 year olds shoes, calling your husband accusing him of taking the shoes in his work truck – that’s happened to me several times!

2. Check backpacks every night. It’s better to check your kids backpack each evening rather than in the morning. When you check at night at least you have time to fill out permission slips or help with homework. If you wait until the morning you risk running late. Also having a designated backpack spot in the home helps a lot too. No more missing bags in the morning.

3.  Stick to a morning routine. We don’t allow phone/electronic time in the morning, not even the TV. This helps keep our kids focused on getting ready for the day. Our routine is simple: wake up, brush teeth, get dressed, make the bed. Next, we take care of the dog and finally we’re out the door.

4.  Make it fun! Chances are your kids aren’t too thrilled to be going back to school. I have 3 kids going to school this year, one in kinder and one in 6th grade and one in 7th grade. The older kids aren’t too excited for school. I want to make mornings fun for them this year. You can do this too by:

  • playing your kid’s favorite music while they get ready
  • letting the kids pick breakfast
  • telling jokes together at the breakfast table
  • giving them a riddle to solve each morning

5. Plan out breakfast. This is probably the first year we will have time to eat breakfast at home. My older kids are taking a bus to school, so that means I have extra time in the morning and we’ll be using that time to eat breakfast together.

I like to have breakfast prepped. Take a look at my back to school breakfast ideas for inspiration.
