The Books I Read in January 2019

I didn’t have a set goal for a number of books to read in 2018 but I ended the year reading about 40 books.  Not bad! Last year I kept track of all the books in one post and this year I’m going to share bi-weekly or weekly depending on how many books I finish each week. Honestly it’s hard to remember what my thoughts were on all the books because I waited to write until the end of the month!

The Books I Read in January 2019

Idiot’s Guide Plant Based Nutrition

My husband and I (and the kids sometimes) have been eating a more plant based diet for about 6 months now. I’ve been reading tons of books to get ideas on vegan cooking. I definitely found great recipes and ideas in this book. I don’t know about you but I’ve been incredibly lazy about writing down recipes lately and started just taking pictures of the recipes I want to try on my phone. Let’s hope I remember to go back and find them!

The Frugalista Files

I told you we’re currently on a #debtfree journey right? No??? Whatttt? Lol. You can read what our current debt is over here. And find the new blog dedicated to our debt free journey plus freebies to help you budget on this NEW WEBSITE! Can you tell I’m excited? So anyway, The Frugalista Files was a fun and easy read. You can finish it over a weekend. It was really cool to read how Natalie spent her money, all about her old and new money mindset and all of the opportunities she came across when she started her get out of debt journey.  Ps. the kindle version is less than $3 grab it here.

Bless Me Ultima

This is Chicano literature and I LOVE it! I haven’t read a book like this in years probably over 10 years. The last book I read that kind of reminded me of this was Rain of Gold by Victor Villasenor. (Which I highly recommend by the way.) This book had me laughing, crying and thinking, “Hey that’s my mamita (grandma) or that’s how my tia (aunt) would say that!” The story centers around Antonio who is a kid (I like reading the story from the kid perspective) and Ultima who is a curandera, basically a healer who uses herbs but is viewed by some as a witch. Also I just found out there is a movie based on this book on Amazon Prime. Adding that to my list of ideas for family movie night!

I picked out more than 3 books for January but was only able to read 3 and that was okay for me. It’s all about balance right?

Want to know how I find time to read? Check out this post.

What are you reading this month? Or what are you watching? I always love book and show recommendations! Tell me in the comments.
