My sister-in-law recently brought it to my attention that I drink a lot of water. She even suggested I write this post. Sisters are pretty smart!
I guess I never realized how much water I do drink, I just know that I am running to the bathroom, a lot! Which isn’t so bad, in this season of life, my days find me chasing my toddler around, and working from home 5 days per week. So I can make it to the bathroom with no issues. If you work out of the home you may have to get creative!
- Keep your body balanced! You don’t want to get dehydrated. Breathing, sweating, exercise all cause fluid loss. You need to replace what you lose.
- Keep your skin looking beautiful! If you are dehydrated your skin will show it!
- Keep your kidneys happy 🙂 Our kidneys work hard to remove the toxins out of our bodies but when we are not properly hydrated they can’t do their job well. Your urine should be light in color and with no odor. If you notice that your urine is dark or has a strong odor you should really drink more water.
- Get a designated water cup! I have a 32 oz pink Bubba I bought at Walmart. It’s plastic and BPA free. I love it because it doesn’t “sweat” and this thing is easy to lug around everywhere! Here is one online that is similar to the one I use:bubba 32 oz envy® mug cranberry My hubby even got a fancy cup (similar to Yeti Coolers Rambler Tumbler, Silver, 20 oz) He loves it and I love that he is drinking more water!
- This one is a tip my A&P instructor told me when I was in LVN school: drink one cup of water as soon as you wake up and one before bed, your kidneys will love you. Our bodies need water!
- Get in the habit of drinking plain water after each cup of coffee, tea or soda you drink. Better yet, start replacing one soda with one bottle of water per day. Start small and pretty soon you’ll be reaching for the water more than the soda!
- Set a timer for yourself to remind you to drink water throughout the day.
- At work you can try keeping water on your desk and sipping throughout the day. Drink a full bottle at the start of your lunch so you can use the bathroom before your break ends. Tell your co-workers so they can help keep you accountable!
I had a hard time when I moved to San Antonio, HELLO SWEET TEA! I may or may not have been in a drive-thru each day for a sweet tea! Later I discovered Sonic and Cherry Limeaids became my thing, and let’s not get started on diet soda…you see I was addicted to the “cool drinks” everyone drinks sweet tea in Texas!! So yes, it took me a bit to get my water drinking going, but I am glad I did! I really see a difference in my skin. I drink over one gallon of water per day and I used to have acne and I have fewer breakouts than before and generally clearer skin. I also save tons of cash because I am not going through the drive-thru daily! Want to know 6 Simple ways to Save? Of course you do, click here.
So what is the easiest way for you to remember to drink enough water each day?
Ps..if you have CHF or any other medical issues please see your doctor before trying to up your water intake!
